about

Days before Harald Harestad was due to report to Komet Lydstudio to lay down 10 tracks for Kåte Klør´s debut album, his backing band cancelled. After a brain storming session with co-producer, engineer and studio owner Espen Eidem at Bøker & Børst, a local watering hole, caution and common sense was thrown to the icy winds of south-western Norway and "Pessmistopia" began to take shape, one day and one song at a time. It was decided that the songs that were originally scheduled for recording should be scrapped. Instead, Harestad showed up each morning and wrote each song as he recorded them; first laying down bass or guitar over a drum machine loop and letting the moment and the music tell him what to do next.

The result was an eclectic, hectic and immediate record. With no room or time, for that matter, for over-thinking or over-analyzing, Harestad and Eidem had to work fast. 10 songs in 5 days, with an additional 5 days for overdubs, live-recordings, hair-pulling and teeth-grinding. Harestad called upon friends who could come in on short notice to lay down backing vocals and spoken word. Local underground poets like Jacob Tom and Okkvald answered the call while local singer/songwriter Emilie Eie and underground punk guru David Pickett provided backing vocals and skits.

"Pessmistopia" is everything but a perfect debut record. It´s flawed and weird ways undercuts and undermines the supercharged and unrealized potential in a project like Kåte Klør, but somehow it manages to serve as a reminder of the task at hand for any artist: to create something out of nothing. Making calls, taking risks; living with and learning from your mistakes. The journey is what matters.

about

Kåte Klør Stavanger, Norway

Norwegian garagerock project fronted by Harald Harestad, Kåte Klør, released its debut album in 2021. Fuzzed out guitars, blown out drums, sketchy synths and snarling lyrics join forces to make negative emotions danceable, moshable and nodding-headable, whilst making light of love, loss and living your life in a post-modern soda fountain. Kåte Klør´s last album came out 2023. ... more
